The importance of product quality, especially in polymer-based materials, lies in factors like aesthetics, performance under service conditions, dimensional stability, uniform properties, failure requirements, and end-of-life sustainability, following ISO-9001 standards. Achieving high-quality products involves considering material choice, manufacturing techniques, processing conditions, service environments, and product design complexity. In the case of polymers, additives, especially fillers, are used to enhance material properties. However, this can lead to a heterogeneous system with a weak polymer-filler interface, making it prone to failure. Commercially, coupling agents, like silanes, are used to improve compatibility between polymer and fillers, enhancing interfacial strength and overall product performance. The training module will focus on fundamental concepts, types of coupling agents, their interactions, selection criteria, and applications, with a specific emphasis on silanes.
